Bright Stars win 3-2 against Express FC in penalty shoot out to book a place in the Stanbic Uganda Cup finals

The Uganda cup has almost reached its final stages as the world is now aware of atleast one team that will feature in the finals and that’s Bright Stars.

Bright stars players celebrate after the penalty shhot-out

The Mwelerwe based club have today evening eliminated Express FC at their own stadium at Wankulukuku in a memorable penalty shoot-out as the two teams were locked on  2-2 aggregate after extra time.

As we all remember, the first leg had ended 1-1 two weeks ago at the Champions Stadium Mwelerwe thus Express came in to this game today with the highest chance of qualifying for the finals.

Nelson Senkatuuka the brighstars captain

Indeed Express took an early lead in just 4 minutes from kick off after a well  taken free kick by John Revita went past the Bright Star’s veteran keeper, Hamuza Muwonge.

The first half ended 1-0 but the Express Goal keeper was the best player in the first half having saved his team on several occasions.

The 2nd half began with Express having a strategy of defending their early lead and trying to catch the opponents on a counter attack. Their fortunes could only last upto the 81st minute when James Angu spoilt the party for the red eagles.

The game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes and hence extra time was needed to solve the tie. Less endurance and energies, the extra time could not yield any result for both teams and thereby after 120 minutes, spot kicks were the only way to settle the matter.

Bright Stars were the luckiest in the kicks winning 3-2 in the process. Bright are waiting for the winner between Kyetume FC and Proline FC
